Bear Grylls early experiences
Bear Grylls was not that bold guy in his early life, He was bullied. The boys would make fun of him in school.
This was the time when he started learning karate, He got a black belt in karate and then no boy could bother to make fun of him.
In his early life, he learned to stand for him, He was not born confident guy but he didn’t make excuses and turned the nature of him around.
Bear Grylls says,
Each night we would sleep on the floor in the small wooden Japanese huts and by the day we learned how to fight, the training was so demanding that I didn’t ever encounter such things. – Bear Grylls
He was hardworking from childhood, He learned karate the hard way, It was not easy for him. But he could not leave this, Because he wanted to defeat all his fears.
And after completing the task, he was proud and happy, That was the first achievement of his life.
I will never forget the day I finally got awarded my black belt, and the pride I felt. – Bear Grylls
Bear Grylls was interested in adventure
From his early life, Bear Grylls was interested in ski diving, mountaineering, and martial arts.
He would climb the mountains with his late father, at Isle of wight to fulfill his adventure dreams, But his real dream was to do something bigger, Which he did (Mount Everest … coming).
The fact about him is that He was not good at school, He was like an average student, not too smart with his studies. That’s because he knew that he is not going to live his life with degrees.
The young age of Bear Grylls
Bear Grylls Joined SAS ( special air services ) in 1994, This was basically designed for the paratroopers and commandos, but it was also open for the civilians.
He went into the training, It was so tough that out of 180 people only 4 remained, From this you can understand how much hard work he might have done.
Bear Grylls Training of SAS
He told to independent, That his first six months were spent on mountains. Sometimes they had to pass through 3 feet tunnel crawling which was muddy, and water was flowing through it.
And the other times it was so hot, They were sweaty, The mosquitoes played their role too. They had to bear super cold weather and too fast winds.
They would always carry 34kg bags which was exhausting. (roughly the weight of an 8-year-old child).
A friend once asked me what qualities were needed for SAS. I would say to be self-motivated and resilient; to be calm, yet have the ability to smile when it is grim; to be unflappable, be able to react fast and to have an ‘improvise, adapt and overcome’ mentality.
